PLANNING YOUR CLASS REUNION

From the VERY SIMPLE to the VERY ELABORATE

How can the school be helpful?
Where should we have the reunion and what should we do?
How do I get started?
How do I locate missing classmates?
What do I need for the event itself?
Is there parking at the school if we decide to hold it there?
How do we donate a class gift to the school?
What follow-up activities should be done?
Who can I contact for ideas, who has done this before?

How can the school be helpful?

  • Address, phone and email lists from our database.  Mailing labels with the St. Elizabeth logo are also available.
  • List of missing alumni from your class (as well as information about possible siblings, to assist you in helping find them).
  • Publicity on our website, publications, church bulletins, and local newspapers.
  • Access to old photos from our archive.
  • Suggestions on how to plan a successful reunion, including tips from other alumni who have been done this.

Where should we have the reunion and what should we do?

While some alumni have used restaurants and catering halls, planning your reunion does not have to be a huge undertaking.  To save on costs and logistics, you may simply want to have people meet at a certain time at a local pub and pay for their own drinks and food.  Or you can plan to meet at a classmate's house or apartment and have everyone bring an appetizer!

We have compiled a list of sites in the area that would work for a class reunion.  Click here for more information.

Sometimes groups have also attended Mass together or planned a breakfast or Friday activity as well, especially if some of the classmates are in from out of town for the weekend.

How do I get started?

  • Contact the school at officedev@steliznyc to let us know of your intention, so we can start helping you right away.  Using the class list, begin contacting other classmates to determine ideas and interests; to recruit others who will help in the planning; and to begin "finding" missing alumni.
  • Select a site and date, determining their availability, the price, what it includes (cash or open bar, choices of food, cash advance and deadlines).
  • Notify the school so we can start publicizing the event for you.
  • If the information is determined early enough, send a save-the-date mailing to all alumni on your directory, with a list of missing classmates and a request for addresses and phone numbers.
  • Determine the price of the event, keeping in mind mailings, decorations, souvenirs, etc.
  • Continue searching for "lost" classmates.
  • Send an invitation with directions and a response card and self-addressed stamped envelope.  You may also wish to include information on overnight accommodations, a request for payment, and/or a questionnaire for a classmate directory.
  • Let the school know if there are specific former staff you would like to invite, and we will provide addresses for them as well.

How do I locate missing classmates?

  • Visit www.classmate.com, www.manahattanboard.com and www.reunion.com (high schools).  Post information about your reunion and look for and ask about missing individuals.
  • Ask every classmate you speak to.  You may wish to make calls specifically for this purpose.  Also note that they are much more effective than mail.
  • Contact the school for information about old friends and possible siblings of the missing persons you are trying to contact.

What will I need for the event itself?

For more elaborate reunions, here are some ideas of things people have done in the past.  You can pick and choose or add your own ideas!

  • Decorations - remember to use your school colors
  • Nametags for all attendees - you may want to include a copy of their eighth grade photo if possible
  • A photo slide show of old alumni and school pictures
  • Souvenirs
  • Displays of memorabilia
  • Reunion booklet with addresses, photos and bios
  • Door prizes donated from local businesses

Is there parking at the school if we decide to hold it there?

Yes!  There is now a garage nearby!  It is located on Broadway, between 184th and 185th Streets.  Click here for more information.

How do we donate a class gift to the school?

A class gift is a wonderful way to commemorate your reunion and for your class to leave a legacy for the school, to help ensure that it has the important resources necessary to continue the quality education made available when you were children.  A plaque commemorating your class gift would be available in many cases.  Below are some possibilities, or see our school Wish List.

  • 10 new statues of saints for the classrooms at $2500 (or $250 a piece)
  • 10 new teachers desks at $3500 (or $350 a piece)
  • trees and benches for the Peace Garden ($500 a piece)
  • Sponsor a Student ($2900 full scholarship or a partial scholarship)
  • art materials ($1000)

What follow-up activities should be done?

  • Please let the school know about any "found" alumni, so we can keep our database up-to-date.  Send all changes, including phone numbers and email addresses to officedev@steliznyc.org.
  • Please mail copies of any photos to the school at the address at the bottom of this page, so that we may post them on our website and in the newsletter.  Other classes, as well as classmates who did not attend, would love to see them!

Who anyone I can contact for ideas, who has done this before?

Lots of different ideas have been tried, and former organizers would be happy to answer any questions you might have about successes and pitfalls.  Feel free to contact them.

In addition, Mr. Kunzig has generously supplied us with a few examples of materials from their reunion that you may want to take a look at:
