Alumni E-Newsletter

Dear Alumni,

You Made It Happen!

Last week we received the final donations to be awarded the $20,000 Challenge Matching Grant for the renovation of the Peace Garden play yard!  With this grant from The Endowment for Inner-City Education, over $40,000 has been raised, in addition to previous grants and donations that we had received.

Thank you for your generosity, and we look forward to showing off the play yard after its renovation this summer!  Donations are still being taken to help offset landscaping costs, and for other items on our Wish List for the 2008-09 School Year.  Please go to www.steliznyc.org/wishlist.asp.

Graduation

Please keep in your prayers the 68 kindergarten students and 40 eighth graders who will graduate this week.  Watch the website next week for photos.

Music Enrichment

St. Elizabeth School recently received a $1000 grant from the Neighborhood Fund to sponsor its After School Music Program. This is the third year that we have received this grant.

As part of this program, third grade teacher Eileen Ferry works with the St. Elizabeth School Choir and provides music instruction to students in the After School Program several hours a week.  The Neighborhood Fund Grant is sponsored by Columbia University Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital, and New York State Psychiatric Institute.

Student Achievements

Sixth grade student Jeremy Yela was the winner for his grade in the District Science Fair sponsored by the Catholic Schools of North Manhattan on May 15, for his project "Eggsperiment."

Three seventh grade students, Elka Morety, Maria Grullen and Jerlene Rodriguez, were accepted into the Aquinas High School PULSE (Partnership for Urban Life Science Education) Program, a challenging Saturday enrichment science program.

The art work of a number of our students was recently displayed at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The event was part of the school’s participation in the Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program, sponsored by the Patrons Program of the Archdiocese of New York.

We congratulate them and all of our students on a terrific year!  Thank you to our alumni for your support and prayers in making so much possible.

May God bless you and your families this summer and always!
