Alumni E-Newsletter
Dear Alumni and Friends of St. Elizabeth School:
As the end of school draws near, our thoughts and prayers are with Sr. Noreen. She is out of the hospital and recuperating. So many of you sent your best wishes and prayers, I am sure she was touched. I sent all your messages to her via Sr. Eileen.
The Spring saw many special events and accolades for St. Elizabeth. Marisel Rodriguez, an 8th grade student won a high school scholarship from the Friends of Nick Foundation.
St. Elizabeth students, Mariaelena Guerrero and Jeremy Yela, took 2nd and 3rd places in the District 6 Speech Bee which was held at St. Jude School. St. Elizabeth also participated once again in the art exhibition of student work at the New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children Hospital for Children. The exhibit, entitled Our Beautiful World, showcased all grades from Kindergarten to 8th grade and all levels of experience. Our children and their families were also invited to a reception to view their work on display.
Many classes took advantage of all that New York City has to offer. The 6th grade class with their teacher Ms. Kaitlyn Vignola, took a field trip to the Madame Tussaud Wax Museum in Times Square. The 8th grade year end trip was an all day outing. After a special breakfast at school with teacher , Mr. James Tomassi, and Technology Director, Mr. Ed Fener, the group went by bus to visit the bowling lanes at Chelsea Pier along the Hudson River to start their day with some exercise. They also saw the Broadway play, In the Heights, about their neighborhood and then went to dinner at Planet Hollywood.
Tom Kent, Class of 1943, suggested that I bring you up to date on the old neighborhood. Washington Heights is still as crowded as ever. Luckily, we still have mostly small stores, including many bakeries and bodegas. Dunkin Donuts has also moved in by the 191st subway station. The 34th Precinct Station has a relatively new building and the neighborhood is still very family oriented. If anyone remembers the name of a certain business or store and would like to know if it is still there, please let me know. I can name many businesses that have come and gone (and stayed) in my old neighborhood around 110 Street and Broadway but I am at a loss as to what was around 187 St. years ago.

We also hope that we have solved the transmission errors in the newsletter. Please let me know if yours arrives with any strange symbols in it.
Sincerely,
