Alumni E-Newsletter

Dear Alumni,

Last month I announced that St. Elizabeth School received a Challenge Grant of up to $20,000 from the Endowment for Inner-City Education to complete renovations on the school's Peace Garden.  For every dollar we raise for this project, the Foundation will match it one-to-one.  Thank you so much to everyone who has given, the response has been phenomenal!  So far a total of $19,001 has been raised and matched by the Foundation, including a very successful candy sale by our school families.

Unfortunately we are still just under $1000 (plus match) short of being able to complete the project.  We now have an additional week to June 7 to raise this money.  We are asking that if you have not already given, you will prayerfully consider it.

Any gift, large or small, will help.  You may donate online or print out a mailable gift form, both by going to www.steliznyc.org/challenge.asp.  Thank you so much for your help!

Students Receive Scholarships

The Friends of Nick Foundation awarded four-year high school scholarships to eighth graders Marcela Madera and Juan Diaz ($16,000) and Adeline Manzano and Nohely Vasquez ($8,000).  The Foundation sponsored a curriculum for eighth graders on character-building, as well as a series of evening workshops with the students and their parents. It is named after the late Nick Forstmann, benefactor of Archdiocesan programs.

Yankees Visit School

On May 15, the New York Yankees Organization visited the school to present our former Parochial Vicar, Father Peter Pomposello, with a check for $17,000 for a summer project he has organized to work with Habitat for Humanity in the Dominican Republic. Those involved are young adults from the Parish of St. Elizabeth.  Guests included Joe Pepitone, who played with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. It was an exciting event!

For photos of this, and other school activities, please visit the website.

God bless you and your families!
