Alumni E-Newsletter
Dear Alumni,
The students are preparing for the coming of the Christ
Child in service, prayer and song. Be sure to visit our
website in the coming weeks to view photos of the
activities and events.
Reunion
Sites
A
number of alumni have expressed interest in holding a reunion
offsite from the school sometime in the future. With the
help of a few local alums and school parents, I have compiled a
list of options, located both in North Manhattan and in
Riverdale. For more information, please go to http://www.steliznyc.org/alum-re-sites.pdf.
If
you are interested in planning a reunion for your class, please
contact me, and I can provide publicity and contact information
for your classmates. Reunion classes ending in 3 and 8
will be celebrating special years in 2008!
Student
Excellence
Congratulations
to fifth grader Natalie Rodriguez who was a winner in the
Archdiocesan Bicentennial Power Point Contest. Her
presentation was displayed at the Archdiocesan Teachers Institutes
in the fall as well as other venues celebrating the Bicentennial
of the Archdiocese of New York.
Congratulations also
to seventh grader Elka Morety and eighth grader Lucien Liz-Lepiorz,
who were winners of the school Spelling Bee, and to eighth grader
Denise Vasquez, who was runner-up.
Raise
Funds While Shopping
Parents and
friends gave a great deal of support to our first several
fundraisers of the year. The Innisbrook Christmas Sale raised
over $5200 to offset school operating expenses. You can
help too by going to www.innisbrook.com
and making your own purchases. They
have more than just for the holidays: birthday
wrapping, bows, chocolate, books and magazines, stationery, etc.
The
school will get 50% of all orders placed! Share this with
your family and friends. When
you get to the home page,
click on Shop, and then
simply
type in our school id #108891.
Students Participate in Special
Mass
The eighth grade students were invited to the Cathedral for
a special Bicentennial Mass celebrated by our former pastor Bishop Gerald
T. Walsh. St. E students were servers at the Mass. After the
Mass, the parish's Parochial Vicar, Father Peter Pomposello, gave the
students a tour of the Cathedral. For photos of this and other
school events, please go to http://www.steliznyc.org/photos.asp.
New Pastor Installed
Father Daniel S. Kearney, will be installed as our new
pastor by Bishop Gerald T. Walsh at a special Mass this coming Sunday,
December 2. Father Kearney was most recently pastor of Our Lady
Queen of Martyrs Church in Manhattan since 1993, and was previously
administrator there for a year. He was also parochial vicar of
Holy Family Church in the Bronx.
Know that you are remembered specially in our prayers this Advent Season
and always.
Sincerely,
Jenny Kaeppner

Special
Masses
St. Elizabeth students were recently part of a very special
occasion. His Eminence Edward
Cardinal Egan celebrated a special Mass at St. Elizabeth Church
on October 9, the North Manhattan Vicariate's celebration of
the Archdiocese of New York's Bicentennial year in 2008.
St. Elizabeth Church's new pastor Rev. Daniel S. Kearney, as
well as representatives from each parish in the Vicariate,
concelebrated the Mass, which was followed by a reception.
The year began with an opening Mass on April 15, 2007 at St.
Patrick's Cathedral and will end on April 8, 2008 with a
closing Mass in Radio City Music Hall. In between, there are
Bicentennial Masses in each of the 19 vicariates of the
Archdiocese.
On Thursday, October 18 students will participate in a
special anniversary Mass for Police Officer Michael J.
Buczek, of the 34th Precinct, who was shot and killed
during a drug raid in Washington Heights in 1988, at the
age of 24. If you are in the area, please join us for this
or any other upcoming Masses.
Large IRA Donation Received
This past month we received a $5,000 annual fund alumnus gift
in the form of an IRA distribution. It will go a long way in
helping the school meet operating costs this school year.
You may also wish to take advantage of this law that
allows donors age 70 1/2 and older to withdraw up to $100,000 each
year from their individual retirement accounts (IRAs) tax
free if they give the money directly to a 501c3 charity, like
St. Elizabeth School. Please contact your financial institution
or accountant for details.
Sincerely,
