Alumni E-Newsletter

Dear Alumni,

Here at the school the children are excitedly preparing for their annual Halloween celebration.  We hope you will take the opportunity to view photos of the event; we will post them next week on our website at www.steliznyc.org/photos.asp.

Graduation Photos Needed

As we celebrate the school's 70th Anniversary, we are preparing a very special issue of the Annual Report, with photos of many of the graduating classes.  We are looking for the 8th grade photos of the following classes: 1961, 1976, 1981, 1986 and 1991. Can you help?  Photos will be returned in January following completion of the Annual Report.

In addition, we are currently working on a special project to complete the wall of graduating class photos on the school's third floor.  Please contact me at officedev@steliznyc.org if you are interested in donating any of the following for framing and hanging on our graduation wall:

    - formal graduation photos (graduation gowns, or suits & white gowns) from:
            1942        1950        1953        1954
    - graduation montages (individual grad photos on the white background) from:
            1961        1966-1981

New Basketball Season Begins

The 2006-2007 CYO Basketball Season will tip-off on November 12 with the Boys' Varsity at Epiphany.  The first home game will be November 14 against St. Charles.  Please go to http://www.steliznyc.org/athletics.asp for a schedule, and come cheer on our teams.

Collect Box Tops for Education

In October, the school reinitiated its Box Tops for Education Program, and already over 500 box tops have been collected to help purchase school equipment and supplies.  If you are near Washington Heights, you can drop them off at the school's Reception Desk, in the Senior Center, Rectory and Preschool Annex, or at Joseph's Shoes on 181st Street and Bennett Avenue.  Go to the Box Tops website at http://www.boxtops4education.com/index.aspx for a list of products.

Send Prayer Requests

The needs of our alumni community are always remembered specially in prayer by our students and parish.  If you would like to remember special loved ones on All Souls Day or celebrate special blessings this Thanksgiving, please be sure to complete the form at http://www.steliznyc.org/prayer.htm.

Please Support our Annual Fund

Within the next several weeks, you will receive a letter inviting you to participate in our Annual Appeal.  This year we hope to raise $50,000 to help close the gap between the tuition that parents pay and the actual cost of educating a child at St. E's (a difference of about $1400 per student).  Catholic schools used to benefit from the "living endowment" that religious sisters provided, which made it possible to have a balanced budget.  Today, with escalating operating costs, the participation of all of our community near and far is important to the Fund's success, and we hope that we can count on your generosity.

May God bless you and your families as we remember you in prayer this next month.  Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,

Jenny Kaeppner
Director of Development
St. Elizabeth School
