Washington Heights Memories

AOL users have set up a page that may be of interest to current and former residents of Washington Heights.  Check out http://members.aol.com/heightsmemories/Heights7.htm with photos and memories posted by what may be some familiar names from the neighborhood.  Also, we have a few new pictures of both the old school and the new school shortly after it was built at http://www.steliznyc.org/archivephotos.asp.  Enjoy!

New Program Benefits Eighth Graders

Our eighth grade will begin a wonderful class focused on character, the Nick Curriculum, starting in October.  The eighth graders will meet each week to journal and discuss how to grow in character, how to become who they are called to be.  In addition, a series of five evening workshops, The What Really Matters Program, will bring 8th grade students and their parents together for conversations about character.  The program is funded by the Friends of Nick Foundation, named after the late Nick Forstmann, benefactor of Archdiocesan programs.

New Law Makes New Giving Options

On August 17, President Bush signed into law that allows donors age 70 1/2 and older to withdraw up to $100,000 each year from their individual retirement accounts (IRAs) tax free if they give the money directly to a 501c3 charity, like St. Elizabeth School.  Please contact your financial institution or accountant for details.
