Alumni E-Newsletter

Dear Alumni,

As the students and teachers return to school this week, we ask that you remember them in your prayers for a successful school year.  Enrollment is up once again this year, and we have even added a third kindergarten class!  Be sure to see pictures on our website at www.steliznyc.org.

Summer Renovations

St. Elizabeth School was a flurry of activity this summer as a number of projects were completed to create an even better learning environment for the 2007-08 school year  The biggest project was the replacement of the flooring on the first and second floors, thanks to donations from school parents, alumni and friends; our Spring Candy Sale; and a Challenge Grant from the Endowment for Inner-City Education.  In addition, painting was completed all over the school, new flooring was installed in the Conference Room, and the Mail Room was refurbished.  For pictures, please go to the website.

St. Elizabeth Church Has New Pastor

Father Daniel S. Kearney has been named the new pastor of St. Elizabeth Church. Father Kearney was previously the pastor of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs on Arden Street.

He will replace Bishop Gerald T. Walsh, who was appointed Rector of St. Joseph Seminary, Yonkers, NY by Cardinal Edward Egan. Prior to his departure, he was the beloved pastor since 1998.  Bishop Walsh has been a constant presence in St. Elizabeth School, supporting all events and activities, and showing a constant commitment to Catholic Education.

Alumni Memories Webpage

Special thanks to Vilma Noda '76 for submitting a memory for the Alumni Memories Page on the website.  "But I think that one of my favorite memories is St. Patrick's Day, where some of my Irish classmates would dress up in their Authentic Irish dance uniforms and dance Irish jigs for us. I remember the pretty skirts and medals they wore. I loved the way they danced and shared their Irish heritage with the rest of us. Ever since then I've held St. Patty's day dear to my heart...I celebrate it and remember my childhood days at St. Elizabeth's. Those were the days."
