June 2006
- Our state-of-the-art Technology Program
continues to remain strong. The Beaumont Foundation of America recently made a
donation of eight laptop computers to the school. This will supplement their
2005 grant of $32,500 worth of 15 new wireless laptops, a laser printer, several
digital cameras, and a data projector, and will further assist teachers in
integrating technology and classroom learning.
In October, New York’s local ABC station, channel 7, came
to film our work with Columbia University Teachers College, as part of our New
York State Department of Education Title llD Grant. St. Elizabeth School video
conferenced with St. Nicholas of Tolentine School in the Bronx, who were at the
Young McDonald's Farm in New Jersey, where they have built a robot and where our
own students have completed projects.
As part of this grant, the school continues to participate in
distance learning opportunities, including recent sessions with the Philadelphia
Museum of Art (a math-in-art lesson for the eighth grade) and the Colgate
University Biology Department (a fifth-grade botany lesson).
In addition, an anonymous alumni gift of $22,000 will be used for technology
supplies and upgrades that will support our Technology Program. This and other
projects are administered by Mr. Edward Fener, Director of Technology.
