August 2008 - On
May 15, the New York Yankees Organization visited the school to present to the
Church of St. Elizabeth a check for $17,000 for a summer project that Parochial
Vicar, Father Peter Pomposello organized to make it possible for young adults of
the parish to partner with Habitat for Humanity, and build homes in the
Dominican Republic.
Pastor, Father Daniel Kearney and former Pastor, Bishop
Gerald T. Walsh were also present. Guests included Joe Pepitone, who played with
Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, and representatives of the New York Archdiocese.
Upon their return from the Dominican Republic, the young adults from the
parish were moved by the poverty they saw. They shared that many children they
met were without basic school supplies! One of St. Elizabeth School’s mission
projects next year will be to collect essential school supplies for these
children.
